Remembering pretty lies is no way to get to sleep. Laying on stomach, side, back, now the other side, wondering how you're sleeping tonight. Not alone, surely. Are you sleeping at all? If you're not, don't need to know why. Because of guilt, hopefully, but no way to be sure.

Sleep doesn't come easy now, despite exhaustion. No phone calls to keep the sheets warm, memories turn the blankets cold - trusting, loving, kissing, hoping, promising. For nothing.

Lonely mornings. Phone alarm goes off, no missed calls. Pretending not to hope for the call that won't come. Always disappointed - ho
